Invite and act on feedback. Build feedback loops so employees and customers can flag unexpected behaviour and see follow-through. Psychological safety grows when people see their concerns change practice.
Model emotional regulation. When decisions based on AI produce disagreements or errors, leaders who remain calm and curious — asking what the system missed and how to correct it — keep teams oriented to learning rather than finger-pointing.
Practical framework: five things to say (and why)
When announcing an AI change or explaining an AI-based decision, consider this micro-script the next time you speak:
Purpose: “We’re using this to X to improve Y.” (anchors intention)
Role: “AI will do A; people will do B.” (clarifies division of labour)
Limits: “Here’s what it can’t do reliably yet.” (manages expectations) — transparency raises trust if the explanation is meaningful.
Recourse: “If you’re affected, here’s how to ask questions or escalate.” (creates safety)
Next steps: “We will review results on this cadence and share what we learn.” (signals ongoing accountability)
